Climate Change Communication Workshop
with George Marshall
Please find below the summary and resources from this workshop held on November 21, 2017 at the University of Sheffield.
This event was organised by the Carbon Neutral University Network, a group of volunteers, both staff and students, working for a clean, green, innovative research campus at the University of Sheffield.
Event abstract
When are we going to start talking about climate change with people outside - or even within - our own social bubble? And how? Join George Marshall for an insightful and witty workshop that will leave you with a whole new set of tools to help you engage your friends, family and colleagues, as well as new audiences, in climate change conversations. Discover how our sense of identity can affect how we respond to climate change and where we can find common ground, even with people whose values are different to our own.
George Marshall
George Marshall and the organisation he co-founded, Climate Outreach, are the leading European specialists in climate communications. George has advised the Scottish and Welsh governments, the United Nations and international NGOs in engaging new audiences in climate change, including youth, trade unions, people of faith and people with conservative values. His book, Don't Even Think About It, is widely regarded as one of the most important books published on climate change conversations.
Workshop recording and interviews
The event was recorded and we even interviewed several participants to capture their impression.
This workshop has been so inspiring and important that a Climate Change Communications Hub was started to implement and test the ideas and improve our ability to communicate climate change.

Other resources
George had to leave very soon after the workshop and asked for a way he maybe able to answer questions while he is back on the train.
So we thought to try out the communication functionality of our website to do just that. Have look what people asked and what George answered on the 'Ask George' page. |
Our first event blog written by Alistair Depmster including an event summary and interview with George Marshall and event coordinators Kathy and Nick.
